Beyond Effort

Sometimes, things are so simple. Whenever I spend time in nature, I’m back in my body, heart and spirit. Nature engages all the senses. Even ones I’m not usually aware of. Nature comforts – I’m part of a whole that I cannot understand. And it’s fine to not be able to understand intellectually. Not everything can pass through the mind.

In nature I perceive wholeness. This wholeness is regenerative. It’s an essential break from the dividing duality I usually experience when I function solely from the intellect.

I want to abide in this wholeness. It is possible to live a life in this knowing, this grace, this appreciation.

In nature, there is only now. There is no past to torment us, no future to live up to. There is no struggle for enlightenment (or any other mental concept), because none is necessary.

    So true Abigail.
Nature is our greatest teacher. She operates on instinct. How else would baby sea turtles know to head to the water as soon as they hatch? And against all odds. They just do it. They simply sense what they they must do, seemingly without fear. Without ‘reason’. And so nature teaches by way of being. Everything’s been provided for us on a platter. For our survival. Our creativity. Our sanity.

But we keep treading on her gifts.
I too had no idea when I was younger. I was ignorant. I didn’t care about the trees, birds, insects. Took it all for granted.Luckily things changed over time..:)

Tanja, me too! I’ve lived in cities all my life, so I never appreciated nature when I was younger. Now, her complexity, ability to accommodate diversity beyond what the human brain can handle, her aesthetics and atmosphere are endless sources of inspiration.

I love what you mentioned about baby sea turtles. I’m learning to live more and more by feel – it’s beautiful to move into this realm of being.
